Reflection

This portfolio was very fun for me to create. I loved being able to design this site and show off the projects I've done in my ENC3416 class. I designed the site with these colors with the intent to give a calm and relaxing tone. I want my audience to feel welcome and invited to my portfolio, and I thought the blues and ivories were a nice way to do that. I tried to keep the layout of my website clear and concise, with tabs in the header that lead to the different pages. The site is easily navigated, and there's an overview of the pages on the Home page. The easy access of the site rounds out the invitation that I'm extending to the audience to stay and explore the site.

For the Home page, I wanted to protray who I am, which is why I included a picture of myself and the "About Me" section. The "About Me" section discusses my days at college, my hobbies, and my career goals after graduation. I also wanted the audience to be able to easily navigate the site, so I added the "About this Portfolio" section to detail the different pages in the site, as well as links to the pages. The "Contact" section includes my FSU email and a way for the audience to leave a message for me.

The "My Works" page presents the two projects I've worked on for my ENC3416 class this semester. I used these hover boxes to present the title of the assignment and a cover picture that represents the topic I wrote about. For the Professional Letter, I chose a cover picture of a child marriage protest I found from one of my sources, Unchained At Last. For the Feature Article, I picked the same picture that I used as a cover page on my article, a picture of the Wescott Building. When the viewer hovers over the box, an overview of the assignment and my topic shows up. A "Read More" button takes the viewer to a PDF of my work. I like the appeal of the hover boxes and it boosts my perceived technical ability.

The "Resume & Cover Letter" page presents my resume and my cover letter for a remote internship at Beaufort Books in New York. I kept the same color scheme with the resume and cover letter as the portfolio, to be consistent across all mediums. I wanted to represent myself properly, and I think I accomplished that with both my resume and cover letter.

Ultimately, I really enjoyed this project. I thought it challenged me to think more creatively and to explore my abilities in web design. I hope that I was able to portray myself as a calm, organized, and skilled candiate for a job or internship, and nicely presented my work from this semester.
